My #StitchFix

I've been seeing a lot friends and colleagues posting on their blogs and facebook about their StitchFix boxes that they've been receiving.  They all seemed to have pretty cute clothes in them... I must confess I immediately signed up for an account with the site, but I couldn't get myself to just actually order a box.  I think it was the fear of commitment thing I have.  I was afraid that I'd get the box and like nothing or I'd get the box and like everything or just trying on clothes period... whether it be at my house or in the store.

But I finally did it...
My box came on Friday right before we were leaving for home.

It comes so nicely packaged and it kind of makes you feel special that someone picked out these clothes especially for you.  You receive five pieces per box.  The first thing I found was an envelope with a couple of things folded up in it.  One was a price list for the pieces and the other was a set of "ways to wear" cards for each piece and a little note from my StitchFix stylist.

So...  now for the fun part.
I had put $50-100 for all pieces... I figured that's what most stores are priced with exception of a few so I thought that would be a good place to start.  I was pleasantly surprised by the picks.

The Jeans were a big surprise.  They are premium denim and only $78.  Just Black.  I think they look pretty good for that price point.  I hate shopping for jeans so to throw a pair in a box for me and have them actually fit is a feat in itself.  There was no crying involved.  I think when I shed a few extra lbs they'll be quite nice!

The red & black checked top is Sanctuary and it's super cute.  I can see it with jeans, leggings, booties, or even tights if I'm feeling a little daring.  It's adorable and I think it looked ok.

This navy striped top with embellishments on the shoulders was a surprise.  I do like it.  It's the softest material.  But I'm not a material girl and don't think I'll ever wear this puppy.  It's actually not awful and does look ok on... but seriously, I'm just not into this embellished shoulder pads on the outside look.  I know it's in and trendy, but if that's the case then I'm out and not trendy.  Wink.

The black top did not fit around my hips so it was out immediately, plus I have probably at least 3 similar black tops at home.  It did have really cute detail on the sleeve as it was almost a scallop cut and was adorable, but that wasn't enough to justify another black top.  No picture on.

And then there was this Daniel Rainn top that I liked when I first pulled out, hated the 2nd time, and felt like it was maternity when I actually tried it on.  Fail.  No picture for you on this one.  haha.

Overall the experience was pretty good.  I think 3 out of 5 is a good go at it!  I was expecting to hate it all.  I know that Sanctuary top had me at hello with it's faux leather on the trim and collar. I die.  Everyone makes fun of me that I like that faux leather trim and some of the tops out there but it's a weakness... and I never buy any of it because I talk myself out of it, but when it looked me straight in the eye, I said "Abby, this ones for you!"

So...
I think I'll keep the jeans and sanctuary top.
The rest will go back with the return envelope using the included free shipping.

And I think I'll give it a try again... It's fun.  I love getting mail, especially packages, and it was shopping with no tears involved.

Have you tried #Stichfix?

Hot Mama

Yesterday (while venting) I mentioned that I've recently taken on another part time job.  With the impending doom of furlough and increases in cost of a few things we have to pay for, I decided I needed something to off set that.  Stella is nice, but that's my money.  So I decided to take on more...
I am now working as a Stylist at Hot Mama.  'Eva heard of it?  Have you been to one?

They are a fairly new company or at least new to growing and spreading across the country; a store created by moms for moms.  We have toys and animal crackers for the kids, we'll even watch them for you while it's your turn to play dress up!    We have wine for mom, beer for dad.  Enough said?  We are also denim experts and want you to look your best and be comfortable!  We dress all kinds of moms and all different ages!

I totally love working with the amazing group of ladies that are on the team as well as the wonderful Indy Moms that happen into the store!  What do you think of these outfits??!

From Megan, Our Founder:
"I truly LOVE moms and I feel honored that I get the chance to serve them every day. Each mom is a Hot Mama, but it’s easy to lose sight of that in the midst of motherhood. My greatest hope is that moms walk into our stores feeling like we are a store just for them and out our doors CONFIDENT that the Hot Mama within them has come alive again!"

Just such a great place to go, feel welcomed and comfortable and be able to get everything you need!  Not only do we offer everything you might need, we show you how to wear things so that even if you don't buy anything that day, you left knowing how to put togehter pieces from your own closet and had a great experience as well!

So, you can shop online at Shopmama.com or pop into a store... there might be one headed your way soon!

Wedding Wear

We recently got some wedding stuff in the mail!

YAY!!!  It's that time again!!!

This weekend, Mr. K is going on his "Hangover II" bachelor party in Vegas.  Last year I swear that they totally had a HANGOVER experience.  I think it took Mr. K about a week to recover fully.  These guys just aren't what they used to be.  And now he's going back with four of the same friends to have another HANGOVER experience.  Lucky kids they are!

I'm hoping he takes some pictures so that I can share his experience (since I never have ones like he does)!

Anyways, we have two weddings so far this summer to attend.  One in Iowa on our anniversary weekend and another in Chicago over Labor Day weekend.  So excited to make the Chicago one AN ENTIRE WEEKEND IN CHICAGO!  Cha-Ching.

But for now, I must figure out what to wear...
I've been eyeing a few things from JCrew and Banana Republic.
I'll have my Stella & Dot jewelry to wear - at least I'm set there... But here are two sets that I came up with.

Banana Republic:
Banana Wedding Options 1
I of course like the little black dress because it will go with everything and anything but I'm loving that electric blue dress right now as well.  And the back is to die for!  I'd just have to figure out what to wear with whatever I chose.  Is the electric blue too much for a wedding?

Then there's JCrew:
Wedding Option 2

I don't know if you can tell, but I think I seem to find this one a bit more flexible as far as options.  See how many jewels are on there?  All available here and there are some GREAT sales going on right now!

I'm also hoping that whatever I choose, I can wear for HOOPLA - Stella & Dot's yearly party training!  It's a big huge convention and this year they are looking at around 4000 attending!  Woah!

Ok... enough for now.
Any suggestions on budget friendly wedding wear?

I Die

So I love Rachel Zoe.  Not sure what it is... or why exactly, but I do.  Maybe it's her crazy sense of style, or her silly antics, or that she over dramatizes everything!  Love her!  In her own words... I die.

This morning, I got my usual Piperlime email.  It was all Rachel's picks!  Uh, Holla!  I love everything she's picked.  Unfortunately for me, I'd say that half of them are over $200!  WOAH!  Not going to work, but I will show you my favorites of her favorites!

First off... I'd buy this dress if I were a twig!  A stick thin little chica who could pull this off with sass!  That I am not, but I still love it!

via

Next up... WEDGES!!!  I love these!  And at only $75... umm.... yes please!  I would totally wear these even if I do then TOWER over Mike!

via

I also love this Tunic Top!  I am in love with anything that covers my tush!  It's not the same as it used to be!  These tunic tops are oh so forgiving!  But I guess I'll have to look for Style for a Steal on this one... It's $315.  WOWZA!

via
I'm loving these two coverups.... one a jacket and the other a silk cover up... LOVE!  They are so cute and so simple but would add so much to a white tee and jeans!

And lastly... this Marc Jacobs bag.  I think I'm one of the only people I know who doesn't have a NICE purse!  I don't have a coach one like EVERYONE that I work with does... I don't even have a nice one from TJ Maxx...  The nicest kind I have is Jessica Simpson.  I am a fan, yes.  But this bag... saw it in Nordstroms a week ago and am dying to have it!  Lottery... Let me win!

via

So what do you think?  Do you love Piperlime and/or Rachel Zoe as much as I do?  I probably have a problem, but at least I can chat about it!  :)

No Sleep, Time to Shop

What do you do when you can't sleep?

I was sick in bed all day (with a headache -- it's that time of year again) so naturally when it was time to go to sleep for real, I couldn't.

Normally, when I can't sleep, I just lay in bed until I just fall asleep.  Not this time.  Tried that and it didn't work.  I wish it had as I get up for work around 4:30am.  Nope, not today.

Instead, I moved out to our loft and popped open my computer and started this post.  However, when it comes to interesting things to do in the middle of the night when you can't sleep, this doesn't cut it.  So I decided to go shopping.  With my Garnet Hill and Lowe's Outdoor Living catalogs, I'm setting out to remake a couple of outfits via Target, Old Navy, and Gap and decide on some outdoor projects for this summer!

Outfit 1:

Style for a Steal Version:
Top: Target- $12.99
Khakis: Target - $20 (roll up)
Shoes: Old Navy - $20
Scarf: Target - $12.99
Bracelet: Stella & Dot - $59
Earrings: Stella & Dot - $39

Outfit 2:

Style for a Steal:
Top: Old Navy - $23
Cardigan: Old Navy - $17
Jeans: Old Navy - $35
Belt: Old Navy - $13
Shoes: TOMS - $48
Earrings: Stella & Dot - $29
Bracelet: Stella & Dot - $39
Necklace: Stella & Dot - $69

Well, that was fun.  I now KNOW that I must go shopping soon!  Do you like these outfits?  Maybe I'll actually do some online shopping right now.

Yep, still not tired.
