Mondays with Martha - Celebrations

Well here we go again... getting back on track...
I love doing Monday's with Martha posts whether they are big or small.

Recently I was looking for a prop for Ella & we ran into JCP and to my surprise (well not really) I fell in love with yet another line they are carrying!  CELEBRATIONS by Martha Stewart is just another amazing addition to the lineup at JCP.

Whether you are looking for just cute little cups and plates, or party decor, or even cute candies for vase fillers, you will find it here!  I am in love.  It's too perfect and it's so much better than anything you'll get at a generic party place!

They really do have great packaging, ideas, sets (if you don't like to get creative), and prices!

Not to mention the fact that I can just run down the street to my local store to grab them!  I haven't checked, but I bet you can even place your order online for in-store pickup!  Winning!

I can't wait to throw another party!  Soon I tell you!  Soon!

Mondays With Martha -- Spring Cleaning

Happy Monday Blog Hogs!  Here we go again, right?

I hope you all had a lovely Easter.  Ours was nice.  Nice enough.  We had a very short trip home, less than 24 hours, and a late night of driving back.  Fail.  But it's always good to be home... even if your home is a super hot mess when you walk in.

With that being said today I'm going to share some organizing tips from Martha.

Mondays with Martha

Spring House Cleaning Solutions!

1.  Deep Clean Rugs & Carpets

via
--   Make sure to spot-clean your rugs and carpets as stains occur and to deep clean 2x a year!  You can either DIY with a rental or hire someone to do it... I feel like our carpets are always a mess, but I hate to move everything around!  Groupon & Living Social seem to usually have carpet cleaning deals so you may look there for discounted hire.

2.  Clean Window Treatments
-- Make sure to take down your draperies and launder or dry-clean them; dust off blinds and clean with a sponge. Freeing these areas of dust helps to refresh the air in your home so you can breathe easy. I know our drop cloth drapes could use a cleaning -- they seem to attract my dogs hair... fail.   3. Replace Outside Doormats -- Give your front door a fresh new look for spring. Replace your winter ravaged doormat with a new one -- you can even DIY a new one if you like!  I can't wait to hit the ground running with this warmer weather and make a new one for the front porch!

4.  Check Batteries in Smoke Alarms
-- Make sure to check your smoke alarm & batteries - Fire safety includes doing a battery check every six months.  I think we did this already because we had an angry carbon monoxide detector and we thought it was the smoke alarms.... but a great way to make sure you always do it is to check them when you set your clocks for daylight savings.

5.  Organize Your Home Office

via
-- What does this mean?  For me, this could take months and then not even be done or stay that way!  Ugh... Try to go through files and shred unnecessary papers.  I know I must do this!  Then give your computer a once over and figure out what can be deleted, what needs to be saved, what can be transferred to back up drives because it's important, etc. I think about picture especially!  Transfer to Shutterfly... Then tackle the clutter that goes along with it.  Find homes for papers that need to stay, trash others.

6.  Make the Laundry Room More Efficient

via
-- Wait, a laundry room should be efficient?  What?  Mine is the most unorganized, inefficient place in our home.  Go through and organized products into bins depending on their function.  If you don't already have one, get a collapsible drying rack to save room when you are not air drying your clothes.

7.  Service Air Conditioners
-- Inspect your air conditioning units.  Make sure to remove and clean filters (or replace if disposable), and vacuum vents on window units. If you have central air, have a professional service it. I'm thinking this is hopping high to the list since our thermostat keeps turning off on it's own... seems like the unit still functions, but the actual thermostat just goes blank. Anyone else ever had this problem?!?

8.  Clean your Coffee Maker
via
--   Makes sense right?  If you are like me, you use it every day.  Once a month, remove mineral deposits by pouring equal parts white vinegar and water into your coffee maker's tank. With carafe in place, run the machine for half a cycle, switch off, let sit for an hour, then finish. Run several cycles of water to remove any aftertaste.  You can also buy cleaners/rinses at the store to use which might be easier... could also be worse.  I can't remember those instructions.

9.  Prevent Bugs
-- Does Anyone else have a potato or roly poly oly bug problem like we do? What a random bug to have crawling around.  As the weather warms, insects return in search of food. Time to make sure all dry goods are stored in airtight containers. Wash your pet's dishes as soon as they finish meals.

10.  Clean House Siding
-- Whether it be wood or vinyl, the siding on your house needs a good rinse down with a garden hose about twice a year.

11.  Prepare Your Outside Spaces
via

-- Make sure you are ready when you'll want to go sit out there!  Start picking up and prepping your deck or outdoor space now so that you can just relax when the weather is right! I think I might try something like this on my side yard!

12.  Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet.
-- Go through and restock supplies, discard old medicines, refill prescriptions, and replace any expired cosmetics.
13. Prep For Summer Guests

via
-- Stock the bathroom with fresh, neutral linens and lightly scented soaps. Bring out a summer-weight quilt, replace pillows, and do a deep cleaning.  It's nice too to have in-room refreshments so throw a few bottles of water on a shelf for your guests.

14.  Host a Garage Sale

via
-- Hubby would love me for doing this!  Cant' wait to have one!  Baby clothes, random collections of items that make their way to our garage when I move everything on a whim!  Can't wait, can't wait!!!  And it's a great idea to throw one with a friend!  That way you have more for buyers to browse!

15.  Get Set to Grill

via
--Before Memorial Day, make sure gas units are firing evenly by clearing clogged burner holes with a sewing needle.  We've always used a charcoal grill because Mr K likes it better and I think ours pooped out on us last year so this should really read make sure to replace your grill if necessary.  Also though it is nice to remove grime by spraying grates.  You can use a solution of equal parts distilled vinegar and water -- Close lid, leave for an hour, then scrape gently with a putty knife.  So nice to not have to do this when you are ready to cook!

With all this now laid out for us I guess I better get to working!  :)

Monday's with Martha { Scrapbook Ideas }

With the little one on her way... hopefully not tonight with the full moon... I'm brushing up on my scrap booking skills with a little help from my friend Martha.

I used to scrapbook all the time.  I have about 10 at home.  They range from things like my skating show, to skating through the years, to high school, to Mr. K and myself.  But for the babe, I want to make sure I include just about everything!  I've saved cards, bags, game pieces, accessories - you name it, I have it from the last 9 months and I'm ready to get going on this major task once Baby K gets here!

Here are just a few ideas from the real Miss Martha:

I'm loving this one for when the baby girl gets older.  I wonder how long I'll be able to keep this up?  Hmmm... I was thinking one for every year... we shall see...

Love this idea!  It's like a scrapbook inside a scrapbook!  I was thinking maybe baby nurses pictures... Who knows what I'll do?!?  But I do love it!

Love.  Love.  Love.
This could totally be attached inside a scrapbook and still be able to flip through all the pages.
I can't wait to start on this project!  It's been so long since I scrap booked!

This might be a neat idea to use with all the pictures that I don't really like or don't really have room for?!?  Might be neat to use with all the non-used daily, weekly, monthly photos taken!

I just like the looks of these corners.  They really are too cute and I like how they are all different.
But using corners gives such a clean, crisp look to the pages without ruining the pictures.

Family Tree - A total must for this baby book.

And just a really sweet photo page of the babe sleeping.  I love the sheep and the ribbon.  Too sweet.

And in case you wanted to do a little more DIY to your scrapbook than usual, Martha also offers cover templates, iron ons, clip art, and cut outs!

Here are a few of my faves:

- These are iron on transfers that look to be screen printed! -

- Print out photo borders -

- I'm sure I'll be using the baby clip art!  These look like Darcy Miller's scrapbook pictures! -

Just a few things for me to start looking into!  Once I finally get all my baby stuff in order, I'll have to start getting my scrap booking stuff in order!  Oh Baby!  Oh scrapbooks!  Oh Baby!

Happy Monday!

Monday's with Martha - New Craftiness!

Have you guys seen Martha's new lovliness?!?!

via

I just saw over at Tatertots and Jello and how fitting to be a Monday!  I get to share with you the latest and greatest that I've seen on the blogosphere!  I'm hopping out at lunch to see what my Michael's has!!!

She's got an entire new line of crafts... If you haven’t heard about this program, it’s a collection of paint, stencils and tools coming to a Michael's store near you very soon if it's not already there!  You can also purchase some of the items on HSN.com!

Exclusively available at Michael's in the US and Canada the paint is formulated to work on all crafting surfaces including wood, metal, glass, ceramic, Terra-cotta, and fabric!  And it' indoor/outdoor safe and dishwasher safe on glass!

via
There are 160 paint colors in five finishes (Satin, High Gloss, Glitter, Pearl, Metallic). All come in 2 oz. bottles and are non-toxic (so safe to use with children).  There are also special applicator tops that convert paint bottles into tools!! So you can add your paint to the bottle and then screw on an applicator top and you are ready to stencil without having to keep dipping your roller in a paint tray.  That's something any stencil-er should appreciate!  You know how time consuming that can be!  Whelp (<-- yes I just said whelp) not anymore!  Not only is it more convenient, but it's also going to help you by using less materials and save time on clean up!

via

via

AND How cool is the  revolutionary Spray Paint Kit that lets you turn any Martha Stewart paint color into a spray paint?!?  This means that you now have 160 different colors to spray paint with!!!  Yahoos!!

Happy Monday!
I know this made mine a whole lot better!  :)

Monday's with Martha - Baby Showers

Good Monday Morning Blog Hogs!

I hope you had a lovely weekend!  I spent mine (Sat) at the Wine Fest & (Sun) in bed with a headache and stomach ache... and while you may be thinking it was what some might call a hangover on Sunday, it wasn't.  I had not one drop of vino.... so sad.  But it was 90+ degrees and I felt water was a better thing to be drinking on such a hot day.  Maybe my headache and stomach ache came from not drinking the vino!??  Hmmm...

Anyways, time for another Monday with Martha.  Since everyone in their brother seems to either be pregnant or just popped one out, I felt like Baby Showers would be a fun thing to discuss.  I like the themed baby showers where the decorations are all book themed or all Winnie the Pooh themed.  While I'm not a huge Winnie the Pooh fan, I recently saw a baby shower with his theme and it was all bumble bees, honey, and bee hives... too cute!

We'll start with tasty decorated treats!  Who doesn't love seeing a beautifully set up treat table like this?

via

I know I do!  So when it comes to cute little treats... "You have me at Hello!"

I came across these too cute designs of a little birds nest cupcake.  They are from Martha Stewart and would be so cute for a party where you don't know what the sex of the baby is OR if someone is having multiples!  You could put that many birdies on top of each!

via

Or these below are for a Noah's Ark themed party.  How cute right?!?
And I'm sure they are super easy too!
Love me some MSL Ideas!

via

Or, if you have a lamby theme in mind which is always too cute for showers and for nurseries, then these would be perfecto! And if you notice (look closely) they are sitting inside of a fence!  Love it!
They look so cuddly... not sure if I could even eat them!

via

Then it's time for DECOR!!! Love the easy decorating items that Martha has out there for us!  These poms are available at Michaels!  They they are super easy to make and you honestly don't even need the kit to make them!  They are tissue papers folded like an accordion and trimmed on the end to a curve or point, or however you like.  Then you get a piece of floral wire, wrap it around the middle of the tissue.  Then all you do from there is separate the pieces of paper to create the sphere shape!  Super easy and totally cost effective!

via

Here's a book themed table scape from Martha Stewart.
I love that she had the moons and stars hanging along with little paper inserts over the table.
Then she uses books as pedestals for the treats on the table!

via

Or maybe you just need a little craft project to do...

How about these letters?  While these next two idea does not come straight from Martha Stewart, I'm sure they are on her website somewhere!

via

Have everyone who comes to the baby shower paint a letter of the alphabet.  You can get all the same size OR you can get all different sizes and texts and when they are finished you can use them for decor in the nursery.  Then make sure that everyone signs the back to leave a little memento for the bean!    Too stinkin' cute!
via

Maybe you'd like a onesie themed baby shower... where not only do you decorate WITH onesies...

But you decorate them too!  Using puffy paint, fabric paint, and/or iron on decals!

via

via

I can't believe how cute some of these designs are!!!

via

via
And just because I thought it was cute... the New Dad's Fanny Pack!  Help him be as prepared as possible!
Complete with a snack, a prepaid phone card, a camera with extra film, a stopwatch for timing contractions, and a notebook, so he can keep track of important telephone numbers, insurance information, and gifts received at the hospital.

Happy Monday!

Mondays with Martha - Father's Day

I'm still trying to get all caught up... The Eighties Skating Show is finally over so I guess it's time to start planning for next year.  But before I do that, I need to catch back up on all the other things that are going on in my life.  Soon I'll be back to normal... but until I am, I thought I'd do a little Monday's with Martha.  I mean who doesn't love Martha... and who doesn't need a little more of her in their life?!?

Father's Day is now right around the corner so I figured I'd check out what Miss Martha had in mind for gifts for Dad.  Well... let's just say that I looked through the handmade crafts and the gifts and they all made me think...
"My dad wouldn't like any of these things... except maybe a few."

There's this Canvas Tool bag.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?  This bag looks extremely feminine.  My dad would never use this.
No offense.
But he sure would enjoy giving us a hard time for picking this one out for him!

Maybe if you're dad's an artist... I guess? But then wouldn't he probably already have these?  Right?
I don't know...

And Emeril's Red Marble Steaks.

All of which he probably would enjoy, but two will go away because they are food, one is a shaving set that is too fussy for my dad, and the other is an outdoor game set which is as close to perfect as they come!  My dad loves to be outside in the backyard hanging out (drinking a beer when he can) with family.

So... is my dad really that unlike most dad's out there?  Would they love these items? Hate these items?
You can see all of Martha's recommendations here.

I love you Martha, but I think that most of these miss the mark :(
