The 21-Day Sugar Detox

Sugar… It’s in everything. This is something I knew, but recently had to accept when I started the 21-Day Sugar Detox with Mr. K last weekend. I’m not sure what the push was that actually made us go through with it, but it happened. We went to Sam’s Club and loaded up on water, veggies, meat, and almonds. Oh, and coconut oil. And it was on.

No noodles and pasta. No bread. No fruit. No soda. No fun.

We started it not really knowing what we were doing. We hadn’t bought the book. We didn’t have more than a list of good foods and bad foods to go off of and a few recipes we had pulled from Pinterest. We were flying semi-blind.

We started on a Saturday so we could cook everything and really give it a full out “go” as far as following the game plan was concerned. We pretty much stuck to the following: eggs, bacon, spinach, almonds, mushrooms, onions, and water. That was for the first couple day. We were pretty strict. In the book there are different levels. I took the quiz and we were level 1 which is the strictest. It says you can have a few “extra” things like a Granny Smith Apple once a day, but no more than that.

Breakfasts consist of many scrambled eggs, onions, mushrooms, bacon, etc. We occasionally made more intricate dishes like bacon wrapped eggs with spinach and mushroom. Those were pretty good.

Snacks were usually salami and almonds.

Lunches we tried a few things like shredded chicken, avocado, and homemade Pico de Gallo. Delish.

Then we tried Chipotle Chicken Salad with homemade mayonnaise = eww. I was not a fan. Now they pretty much consist of spinach salads with hard boiled eggs, carrots, celery, onions, bacon, garbanzo beans, and oil & vinegar for dressing (from Marsh). This works well for me during the work week.

Afternoon Snacks – Lemon or Lime water & almonds. Occasionally some homemade Pico by the spoonful.

Dinner we’ve tried Cinnamon Chipotle Sliders with sautéed mushrooms and onions. They were ok. Then we tried a rump roast in the crock pot with chicken broth, mushroom and onions. It was ok. Then we had plain pork chops and chicken. One night we had steak. All were ok. The less involved the dish, the better it tended to be.

It does take a lot of preparation which we’ve noticed we are lacking going into week 2. Lots of chopping, cooking, baking, etc. And when you work or are busy that can be a lot to take on. So we tried our best. Now I’m sure we’ll find easier ways to do it. I swear if you can get through the first week of a new diet, lifestyle, etc… you can do it much longer than you think! Because you learn what works and what doesn’t. And know how to make it work better with your lifestyle!

So now that I feel I’ve eaten an entire pig and a good amount of chickens (eggs and thighs), we are kind of loving it. Day 3 I was craving chocolate and crunchy things but I held on. As of last Friday I had lost 10 lbs and Mr K had lost 12. He cheated a bit, but still lost and still kind of amazing. I’m proud of us that we made it to day 6. Haha. That sounds awful, but we had a weekend where cheating was inevitable so we picked it up today again.

But I like it. It’s very Paleo-esque and the detox is only 21 days. So today I’ll start it up again. It (I’ve now got the e-book) says once you cheat you should start back at day one, but I’m just going to see if I can do it for another 15 days which I think I can. I bet I could probably do it through next weekend. After the “detox” portion is over, I think we are going to try to follow a more paleo diet. Mr. K loves meat and eggs.

Hardest part for me – Crunchy things gone and celery doesn’t count!

Hardest part for Mr. K – No Coke.

Anyone else tried the 21-Day Sugar Detox? Or follow a Paleo diet? I’d love to hear what you think! Or tricks you’ve learned!

Weight Watchers... Again... & Recipes

Does baby weight just hang around on everyone?!
It seems like it's not going anywhere for me...
Actually, I feel like I've gained weight aside from the baby weight.

So since that is the case, I figure I better REALLY do something about it.

And when I saw a Weight Watchers promotion at Shop At home - sign up for $1 and earn $7 cash back, I figured it was a sign.
Side Note - I love Shop At Home.  It's wonderful!

So I'm on the Weight Watchers train (again) and I'm hoping to be the new Jennifer Hudson... Yeah right!  I wish!  But yes, I have tried this before.  I tried it with my mom, but I'll be frank with you... I suck at diets.  They make me more hungry than normal and I always want things I shouldn't have.  I guess that's the point of a diet, but I enjoy food.  Which is why I chose this again because I will be able to eat, just not as much.

I'm going to work hard and I'm going to lose this weight if it takes me forever.  I feel uncomfortable, my clothes don't fit right, I only have a few things that I can fit into, and I'm just sick of being large.  I felt so good leading up to and even after my wedding.  To get back down below 150 would be wonderful!  I think that's my starting goal, but my real "ever-after" goal is to get down to 135/140.

Aside from just Weight Watchers, I'm making myself do some-sort of activity every night. It can be running, a long walk with Ella, or my 20 min Windsor Pilate's (that makes me sweat), but it has to be something.

My motivation:

1. I'll feel better!
2. I'll feel better!
3. I'll buy myself new clothes!
4. I'll look good in my new clothes!
5. It's good for me!

And... we might start to eat as vegetarians too, just to try to "health" up our eating...
Although, don't worry, I bought coney dogs to make this week!  Probably eat up all my points in one sitting!

But, instead of worry about that right now, I'm going to share some of my favorite found recipes from the website thus far!

1 Pepper = 1 Point!
Holla!

4 Nachos = 3 points
Easily a good dinner!

Caramel Cappuccino Shake
5 points

Angel Hair Pasta with Eggplant Tomato Sauce
6 points per 1.5 cups

Chicken Teriyaki with Broccoli
7 points per serving

So maybe it won't be that bad...

Even Chili Dogs are only 6 points... a lot less than I thought!

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Losing It

I am losing it these days in many ways, but I NEED to be losing it in others... like weight!

Last night I went on a 3 mile walk (a quick one) in between severe thunderstorms, tornado warnings/watches, rain, lightning, thunder, hail, etc.  It got me thinking... although my body hates me the next day when I exercise it felt good.  It usually does.

So this morning, I downloaded the Lifetime Fitness app that they have to figure out when I can make it to the gym.  Ella is now old enough to go to the gym daycare and you know what, I think I'm ok with that... it wouldn't be for more than an hour anyways!  It's time to get this schedule figure out...

I also was not invited to a practice class that one of my friends is doing and even though I can't do it, I would have wanted to.  I like to say no rather than not be asked at all.  Skating is always getting in the way.

So....
It's time to LOSE IT!

Step One:
Download Gym App so that I know when classes are at different locations.

Step Two:
Figure out schedule to include gym time 3x a week.

Step Three:
Sign Up for any and all 5K, 10K, and Minis that I can from July on.

Step Four:
Use and Abuse my new walking partner - Julia!

Step Five:
LOSE IT!

I'm thinking these will be totally achievable!  I've already done step one and part of step three.  Scheduling is a major issue for us so we'll see what happens with that.  I guess even if we go Saturday and Sunday, it will still count.

I've already signed up for The Color Run

And The Monumental Mini here in Indianapolis

I'm hoping to get my Fort Wayne Fam to sign up for the Fort 4 Fitness Mini too!

via

Maybe I should just try to get back into skating... lol.

But seriously... I think I'm on the right track...
Bubye 30-40 unwanted L-B-S!

By the end of summer?  I think I could be down 20.  That's a good starting goal.  End of July would be 6 months from when Ella was born so I think that's a good goal...
Hold me to it!

But seriously, do!  I'll try to blog about my progress once a week and I'll keep track of my miles over at Dailymile.com.

Happy Hump Day!  (FINALLY!)

Back To The Grind

With only two more weeks left before I go back to work, and most of my clothes still being a bit too tight, it's time to get back to the grind... the workout grind that is.

I've decided to, for the next two weeks, either go for a run or do a 20-40 minute pilates workout everyday but Sunday.  The runs seem to be easier to work into the schedule at the moment even though they are usually longer because I can take Ella with me.  The timing of them, early afternoon, seems to work very well with her schedule.  However, there are some things that I have going on during these next two weeks like lunches with friends, skating lessons, and trying to get my house back in order that are proving to get in the way.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
Run

Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
Pilates

*Extras*
To get a walk in with Ella everyday - 2-3 miles if possible!

I've been trying to map and log my walks into Daily Mile.  You can see the app on the left sidebar.  It works just fine for me... lets me map out my routes and tells me how far they are.  It also tracks my progress and allows me to connect with others and/or share on facebook.

I wonder how long it'll take me to get back into the groove like I need to be, make sure I'm doing it consistently, and finally fit back into my clothes?!?  I'm hoping not too long.  This wearing the same thing every day is not fun!

What do you guys use for workouts?  And how did you get back in shape after babies?!?  This little pouch on my stomach wants to know badly!

Oh well, boring Tuesday post.  Sorry about that.  I'm hoping tomorrow will be better!

GymPact

How many of us have bought a gym membership and never used it?
Have any of you heard of this?

Mr. K found this before he had an iPhone and has now signed up.  We shall see how much he makes or loses on it!  haha.  What it does is it incentivizes your workouts.  It helps you commit to exercise using cash incentives and they say that their members make 90% of their committed workouts.  They put real money on the line and made it easy to check in at gyms so people could actually make themselves get out and go to the gym!

You do need an iPhone to get started, but if you gym has wifi, an iPod Touch or iPad can also work for check-ins.  They are able to verify any fitness center outside of your home or office.

Your pact is a weekly commitment that runs Monday through Sunday.  You have until Sunday at midnight in your timezone to sign up for and change your pact for that week.  All pacts then start on Monday.  GymPact sends out attendance emails on Monday/Tuesday with your attendance and any payments due or rewards earned.  If you meet your pact, you get a cash reward for each day committed.  Where does the money come from?  It's paid for by those who didn't make it to the gym.  Generally the rewards are $.50 to $.75 per workout.

Wish I had an iPhone although I probably would lose more on this right now than make!  Still trying to figure out this whole baby and motherhood thing!  It can be very complicated as anytime I want or am ready to go somewhere we have a meltdown.  Oh Ella.

I'm back to using Daily Mile which you can see on the left sidebar.  :)

Happy Tuesday!

Losing It - 2nd Edition

Good Friday Morning Blog Hogs...
Has anyone joined the "I Jiggle (just a little less)" Challenge from Running Backwards in Heels?  I did it 2 weeks ago and joined in on Week 3. I missed Week 4 and am joining back in on Week 5 - now!  I feel like if I start this, then I need to share with you guys... and if I feel like I need to share with you then maybe I'll actually run.

Weight Loss Challenge

Right now, that's all I'm doing... running.  This week so far I've run twice.  I should have run more, but I was fighting a headache all weekend through Monday (excuses, I know) so we finally ran on Wednesday.  You might notice that I wrote "we." If you didn't, I just pointed it out to you so now you do!  So yes, I've corralled Mike into the mix.  Don't worry, it is for his own good was his choice.  So we ran...
Monday - Nadda
Tuesday - Nadda
Wednesday - 2 miles
Thursday - 2 miles
Friday - ?
Definitely Saturday - @ least 2 miles

I think that's a good weekly running status for now.  Especially since my schedule is super crazy busy right now... I can barely keep track of everything that is going on.  Skating 7 days a week, Stella & Dot, and my full time job... I'm getting a bit exhausted, but skating will die down here soon and then it will be summertime!  Yay!

Thank goodness for the recent nice weather.  It's made me want to run more.  I just wish I had more time!  This week I posted on facebook that I needed to find a way to get more sleep out of the sleep I get...or a way to feel more rested because I think at the moment I usually get just over 6 hours, which I totally understand is more than some, but I'm beginning to think it's not enough for me!

As for weight... it's not going down.  I'm totally bumming.  I even hopped on the scale today and it seemed to go up.  Maybe it was my eyes and how tired I was this morning.  BUT I know that if I keep with it, something will change.  :)  I hope.

So for now, I'll keep running...
Keep trying to make my portions smaller...
Keep trying to make Mike go with me...
Keep trying to run longer...
And Keep On Keepin' On.

Goals for next week:
Monday - 3 miles
Tuesday - Nadda
Wednesday - 2-3 miles
Thursday - 2-3 miles
Friday - Jillian's Shred?
Saturday 2-3 Miles
Sunday - Nadda

Happy Weekend to everyone!
I hope you enjoy your day with your mom's!  I'm going to do a special post on Sunday for my mommy!  :)

PS... I was watching a documentary called "Don't Forget About Me" regarding John Hughes. You should watch it.

Weekly Recap - Losing It

Good Friday Morning Blog Hogs!  Thank god it's finally here!  It's taken long enough!  This is one of those Fridays that I have to work.  :(  Boo.  Oh well, I'll get over it.

Today's recap is about me.  lol.  Nice, I know.  No, but really, it's about how my weight loss exercise goals have been going.  So... here we go.

Remember in March when I posted this about trying to go to the gym for 15 out of 30 days.  Complete fail.  I think I went once!  I think it has to do with a funk I seem to get into come those winter months!  But since spring has barely sprung, I've actually gotten a lot better.

No, not at going to the gym, but at running outside... which is where I'd prefer to do it.

Week 1 -
Monday Run - 2 miles
Wednesday Run- 1.5 miles
Saturday Run - 1.5 miles
Total Week 1 - 5 miles

Week 2 -
Monday Run - 2 miles
Thursday Run - 2 miles
Saturday Run - 2 Miles
Week 2 total - 6 miles

Week 3 (this week)
Monday Run - 3 miles
Thursday Run - 2 miles
Friday run - Questionable (supposed to rain)
Saturday run - maybe while we are at home
Sunday run - maybe...
Week 3 total - TBD

I've been going to run after skating on the Monon sometimes on Mondays or Tuesdays.  I love the Monon in Carmel.  It's always busy, there are all kinds of people you see, all kinds of dogs too!  It's just so active and I think that it makes me try harder.  When I can't do that, I run in our addition.  Not as much incentive or drive there.  Oh well, at least I have my paths mapped out.

New goal:  To do the Fort 4 Fitness with some other members of my family!  It's a half marathon in our hometown of Fort Wayne, IN.  I've never done anything like this but since it's in September I'm sure that I can handle being prepared by then!  I'm hoping to increase by 1 mile each week. So this week's goal was 3 miles/3x a week, but it might have to be repeated next week.  Then go to 4 miles/3x a week and so on.  I thin that will work.  I can increase how I like... we'll see what happens.  I'm just glad to be out and moving again.

Weight Loss Challenge

And because I'm moving again... I'm linking up with Running Backwards in High Heels and her link party for fitness and weight loss challenge!  Check it out!

Happy Weekend!
