DIY Wood Bead Garland @ The City Moms

This weekend I was a progress machine...
And you can only half tell by the current status of my house...
I swear the next time it's all clean I'm going to have someone come take photos for when it's time to sell so I'll just be like "Oh you need house pics, right here...DONE!"

But... I did, along with tons of cleaning, get a few DIY projects done this weekend... For The Love of Letters

Last week I shared with you that House Seven had a coupon code for a shop called For The Love of Letters.  I decided to use that coupon code since I'd been wanting some of these adorable pieces for a while now... And I always love a hometown or local shop!

So after picking three small favorites... from what was available... and making a GINORMOUS wish list for many many more... I picked them up and they made their way into my house before we left for vaca.

BTW... I turbo cleaned my house before we left because I thought a cousin was going to stay there... well he ended up not staying and coming home to a clean house was AMAZEBALLS... but don't worry, it's already trashed as the toys were dumped all over the floor and there were loads and loads of vacation laundry to be done!  But I still love me a clean shower...
Anyways, I digress...

So... I picked up these cutie pies and they've made their way into two rooms in my house...

I love the way they look in Ells room.  They are just too cute clustered with the one that I made and the one I found at home goods...

Then I put one on my bedside table too.

It probably won't stay there, but it works for now.

The third has not found a home yet... At this moment, it is sitting in my secretary, but looks less than... so I'm hunting for a better place for him.

But for now... I'm loving my new art prints where they are!

House Tour :: Living Room

Wow.  My living room is clean.  Well picked up that is.  And if you are good, you will still see the many imperfections lingering in this room.  So I apologize if you clue into those... I took these pictures this morning at 5:25am before I left for work so they are a little dark and some are grainy because I took them on my phone.

I had every intention of taking them last night in better light and with my real camera, but that was a no go with my sinus/allergies/headache mess that had settled in yesterday.  Finally took some Allegra D and am starting to feel a little bit better!

But this has been a post that is a long time coming.  Usually this room is a mess.  It's the first room you see opening the door.  It's a dropping zone.  It's where we LIVE, hence Living Room.  But I went on a mad cleaning spree this weekend and 2 days into the week it's still clean!

So... without further ado...
Our living room

This is the view looking in from the kitchen/dining area.
My boyfriend sits over the TV.  I think I'd like to add something up there, but am still unsure what.

If you look directly right when you walk in, here's what you'll see.  My sunburst mirror wall.
I think this wall brings together all the mixed wood tones and golds going on in the room.
It also sort of anchors it.

Here's the view from just walking into the door.

I'm in love with my new-ish ladder.
I got it from The Vintage Farmhouse in Zionsville and I absolutely adore it!
It works perfectly for our blankets and adds a little character and country at the same time.

Here's my little what I call nook.  This chair is orange underneath. You might remember it from my craigslist finds years ago.  It's a pottery barn wing chair and I love it, but the color doesn't work.
And quite frankly neither does this slipcover.  We have two black dogs an a child and for some reason everything clings to this chair - chocolate milk, dog hair you name it.  I recently ordered a navy slipcover but decided against it becasue the fabric was a canvas and almost hard.

Any thoughts on how to re-do this chair on the cheap?
I have a few, but I always love suggestions!

Clearly I have a child... Hello Mickey!

Another view from the Kitchen.  I really do love how this space has changed for the better over the years.  It's on it's second coat of paint and pretty much the same furniture since we've moved in.

I did recently make this end table and I'm seriously loving it too!
Someday I'll get to that on the blog -- easiest process ever!

My recently updated horse with the tassel on his ear.
Yesterday Ella said to me "Mommy, you painted my horse" and I said, "Yes I did!"
It cracked me up that she (1) just noticed it and (2) left it alone because it was a different color!
Crazy Kid!

And lastly a new addition to the coffee table!  A while back wrote about dressing a coffee table.
This is the best I could do on limited resources!  I had the antler.  Think about tipping it with gold.
I found that copper creamer at goodwill the other day for 49 cents!  Steal!
And the book is an old Reader's Digest that I've started collecting from Goodwill for Maeve.
I love the patterns that are on them!

The tray painting tutorial is on it's way!  Love this tray, also from Goodwill - $3.99.
In Navy, now it POPS!

So there she is... my humble living room.  Very simple, plain, kinda blah if you ask me but the little details all over seem to be helping.  Loving my new succulents too!  Hoping I don't kill them since they are inside!

Color Crush: Navy

Anyone else seriously crushing on Navy these days?  I keep seeing it everywhere and am loving it.  It's so deep and serious, but then natical and classic at the same time.  It's such a standout color.  I just love it.

Tonight organization of my pantry/office is on my to-do list.  I've been wanting to tackle this are a little more in depth for a while now, but it's just not been clear in my head.  I know I'd like some shelving on the walls - either around the top or up the back wall.  I'd like it to have an industrial feel.  I think Navy, Golds, & Carmelly Browns will fit the bill.  I'd also then like to update our pantry shelving with industrial piping and wood.  Ooo... It all sounds so nice...

But until then, I'll continue to peruse Pinterest for more ideas...

31 Days // Fabric Samples

DAY SEVEN --

Ever get that happy feeling inside that your home is finally starting to come together?!

Me either.

But I love trying!

So today when I got a few fabric samples I was completely inspired and in love with 4 out of 6 of my picks!

Here are the winners...

But I got this faux bois pattern too and I think I'm in love... (It's added below)

Can you guess where they'll end up?!?
Here's what I'm thinking... I think...

I am pretty happy with my internet coordination of colors and patterns!
Done any fabric shopping lately?

Pianos

Just thinking today about how much I've always wanted a piano in my house...
And how I know someday I will have one...

And how I was casually looking at Emily A. Clark's blog today and realized she placed one in her foyer...

And how I kind of like that idea...

So instead of looking for a new entryway table...
I think I'll search for a piano I can sass up...

Here's a little inspiration...

Another Gallery Wall...

Last weekend at my mom's house she put me to work.

She's been asking me to help her with "her pictures" for a while now.  We attempted a few weeks back, but we did not have pictures or enough frames.  So then, instead of working on the layout, we ordered the pictures she wanted so she could get that ready until I came back again.

Well, that time had come.  It was 8pm at night when we started and we didn't get finished until about 12am.  Ugh.  I know.  Ella and Mr. K slept on the couch while we finished.

We started with ALL the frames she had.  That was a lot!  And only a handful did not have pictures so I put them in just figuring she could find a picture to use later whatever the layout of that frame may end up.  We laid them out across the living room floor.

We did this a couple of times and then this is what we ended up with.

Once she gave the go ahead on the layout, we went to the wall.

Now, I will say that I'm not much for measuring.  I'm more of an eyeballer if I do say so myself.  My mom?  OCD.  Seriously.  Well not seriously, but might as well be.  So, for her sake, I did measure a few things, and used small nails in case we had to redo any holes.

Here's half the wall...

And here's one my mom sent me of the entire wall...

Don't you love the tags on all the pictures?!?  That's my favorite.

Yikes Stripes!

I knew I wanted to do something kind of fun and different in the Nursery closet.  I thought about trying to stamp the walls with a potato stamp, but decided that would not work out as I'm not really artistic.  I wasnt really sure, but i wanted there to be a space on the floor to play, read, whatever.

So I decide to stripe the closet walls to start the space off.  When I was 9 months pregnant.  Oh yea, Mr. K was not very happy with my decision so I did it while he was not home.  AND I didn't make him help me at all.

The biggest problem with the closet was the shelves/hangings that were already in there.  Mr. K was very adamant that I did not remove them.  So I had to work around them.  For this reason, I choose to do uneven stripes in the closet.  They are all different sizes...although I'm not sure you can tell it.

I started with a blank canvas and measured the wall - floor to ceiling.  Then I just started to divide it up into different sizes and hoped that they added up to that height.  I made it so they did.  Then I marked the wall and put the painter's tape up.

I marked the ones that would be staying white with little pieces of tape so that I didn't paint there!

Here's what it looked like once I had all the tape up.

Then it was time to paint!
I did the same color as the walls in the bedroom and white stripes.

I never thought I'd really tackle a project where I striped the walls, but it really wasn't that bad!  The hard part was making sure the lines were straight and taping everything off!  That was a pain.  But once I got to the painting it was super easy.

There are a few places that need some touch ups, but overall I'm super excited for this space!
I know it is just a closet, but just wait!

Our { New } Hall Wall

I always thought when I was younger that I'd have pictures hanging up all over my house.  My family didn't really hang that many pictures.  My mom (no offense mom) was very fickle about what went on the walls and where and how they were hung etc.

But for the last couple of Christmases I was asking for black picture frames.  I received 2-3 sets of 10 and then we randomly collected other black frames during that time as well.  And in the de-cluttering process, I decided it was time to hang them up!

Here they are after they made their way out of "storage" into the hallway for placement.  Make way for baby changes are going on all over! And it does actually feel good to be getting everything (kind of) in order.

And here they are up on the wall.  There are a few "blank" spots that I'm hoping to fill in like on the far left.  But other than that, I'm very happy with how it all turned out.  They are just the right pop of color on the barely there wall color.  And the pictures inside of them will most likely be changed out.  Getting them off the floor was the first feat.

Last night I actually replaced all the pictures that were not pictures but what the frames came with when purchased.  I scoured through some old pictures of Mr K and I and found some interesting ones as well as some others from our wedding.  I'm sure that those will soon be changed out to include Baby Girl.
I like the change.  And don't worry, that $10 picture ledge will be finding a new home in the guest room which will soon be revealed as well!  Lot's going on at The Kellermeyers!
