DIY Wood Bead Garland @ The City Moms

This weekend I was a progress machine...
And you can only half tell by the current status of my house...
I swear the next time it's all clean I'm going to have someone come take photos for when it's time to sell so I'll just be like "Oh you need house pics, right here...DONE!"

But... I did, along with tons of cleaning, get a few DIY projects done this weekend... One being for the other girls room <-- a="" all="" and="" baby="" came="" current="" currently.="" dad="" ells="" fit="" for="" girl="" give="" he="" her="" i="" in="" it="" just="" loving="" most="" my="" nbsp="" nickname="" other="" over="" p="" possible="" s="" said="" stuck.="" swear.="" that="" the="" them="" throwing="" to="" told="" toys="" up="" was="" way="" when="" with="" would="">

New Cup Rack from Second Chancez Marketplace

I've been looking for something to hang my copper mugs on for quite sometime.  They really are just too pretty to be sitting in a cabinet...

I've also had this odd little wall that I've been wanting to do something with... It's in between a window and a  sliding door.  It didn't need anything large, but it needed something.

I had seen these cup racks kind of popping up all over the place...

via
via
But they were a bit too large for my space.

And then my girlfriend added one to her new online shop... Second Chancez Vintage Market.

I ordered one immediately.
It was about half the size of the others I'd seen... so it was perfect!  And the price was just right!

I think they all look better hanging by the handle like below.

And now I"m off to search for a small 3-drawer dresser to sit underneath it!

What's Your Take On House Plants?

Do you have house plants?
I do not.  I tend to kill them.  Although I do like a good vase of flowers or greenery which makes me think I might enjoy a plant here or there... We'll discuss their likelihood of living later.

I am a lover of succulents.. I have been for a long time now... I used them in my wedding...

I have had them in my house at one point or another...

And they are just a really gorgeously easy plant for your house!

via

But I was thinking on a larger level...
Like a Fiddle-Fig Leaf...

via

via

via

There is just something about having plants in the house...
Maybe it makes me think the air is fresher...
Maybe it's the color they bring...
Maybe it's the sense of having a little outdoors in...
Unsure...
But I do really like the ones above...The "tree-ish" options.

Then there are other plants I found being used inside that I liked too.

via

via

via

If I only had a mantle like his...
Swoon...

And then, even better... I found a cheat sheet to keeping them alive!

via

But I'm just not sold yet.
I think I love the idea of having some nature inside and being able to watch something grow with my Ells,
but am most afraid my dogs might utilize them in other ways when I'm not home...
Just keeping it real.
My dogs are bad.
Real bad.

HOWEVER, with that being said...
If someone can find me these lavender topiaries for sale in Indianapolis
I will MAKE a place for them in my home!

via

Seriously Swoon...

So do you have a house plant?  Or plants?
I'm curious if anyone has found them that work really well in their home, with their decor...
and with kids and dogs too!

Rugs { Again }

Can you believe the weekend is over?
Do you ever get that moment on Sunday night when you think back to Friday and all the things you were going to accomplish over the weekend and realize, while you are sitting there exhausted, that you didn't get to do any of them?  I feel like that's my every Sunday.  And then it starts all over again...

Anyways, my mom came down this weekend to help me find a rug.  I'm not a very big help when it comes to actually going to shop for a rug besides going to Home Goods because honestly that's the only place I know to look that might have something big enough and for a decent price.  Besides online...

So... after we scoured all week last week we were down to three favorites on Rugs USA.  BTW they are having a phenomenal sale and it ends TODAY!  So hop on over to Rugs USA Rugs USA and get yourself a new rug for 70% or 80% off when you are done browsing my favorites!

Remember the Threshold Criss Cross Fleece Rug that I've had my eye on?
Well {insert Kylie Minogue tune}, I can't get it out of my mind!  After all, it's what I thought I wanted in the first place and had it been 8x10 it would have been in my living room weeks ago... but alas it wasn't so the search continued.

And after hitting the two Home Goods closest to my home Saturday, I hadn't seen anything that tickled my fancy... there was one with the cross pattern in it, but I looked tan... so we kept searching...

I just kept coming back to these guys...
This one -- The Felted Wool Dhurrie Rug -- in gray was my absolute favorite.  It loved the color, the texture, the neutral-ness of it and the fringe!  But... even at 70% off, it was a little bit out of the price range and it didn't come in an 8x10 so I would have been settling for a 7x9 which would not work as well.

Next was this one -- The Tuscan Moroccan Shag Rug -- in Ivory... and it was pretty much the closest thing to the Target version.  However, at 70% off it came in at $504 for an 8x10... still a great price on an 8x10 rug, but I wanted to stay right around $300 if possible.... Home Goods was my price gauge! haha...

And this little guy -- The Marrakesh Shag Rug -- melted my heart with it's soft shag and adorable braided fringe!!  I mean, that fringe is to die for, right?  Why wouldn't someone want that in their house?  Ahh... I still melt every time I look at it...  And with 70% off, the price was almost right at $374.  This one was high on my list.  My mother thought otherwise because she said the fringe would never be straight and it would drive her crazy.  But seriously, this handsome thing could never drive me crazy...

When I showed these to my momma after our long day of shopping Saturday, she said, well I'm just going to go back to Home Goods and grab that one...

So Sunday morning we did just that...
We drove right back up to the Home Goods to grab it and bring it home..
My mom is an instant gratification person... I like to find things on my doorstep.
Guess that's the difference between the baby and the oldest, right?

But we ended up home with this lovely...
And it was only $299!
Plus in my house, with all my paint colors and decor, it really doesn't look tan...
It takes on the charcoal look I wanted!

And someone likes it very much...

So I'm #HomeGoodsHappy this Monday morning!

Anyone else find anything good at #homegoods this weekend?

House Tour :: Living Room

Wow.  My living room is clean.  Well picked up that is.  And if you are good, you will still see the many imperfections lingering in this room.  So I apologize if you clue into those... I took these pictures this morning at 5:25am before I left for work so they are a little dark and some are grainy because I took them on my phone.

I had every intention of taking them last night in better light and with my real camera, but that was a no go with my sinus/allergies/headache mess that had settled in yesterday.  Finally took some Allegra D and am starting to feel a little bit better!

But this has been a post that is a long time coming.  Usually this room is a mess.  It's the first room you see opening the door.  It's a dropping zone.  It's where we LIVE, hence Living Room.  But I went on a mad cleaning spree this weekend and 2 days into the week it's still clean!

So... without further ado...
Our living room

This is the view looking in from the kitchen/dining area.
My boyfriend sits over the TV.  I think I'd like to add something up there, but am still unsure what.

If you look directly right when you walk in, here's what you'll see.  My sunburst mirror wall.
I think this wall brings together all the mixed wood tones and golds going on in the room.
It also sort of anchors it.

Here's the view from just walking into the door.

I'm in love with my new-ish ladder.
I got it from The Vintage Farmhouse in Zionsville and I absolutely adore it!
It works perfectly for our blankets and adds a little character and country at the same time.

Here's my little what I call nook.  This chair is orange underneath. You might remember it from my craigslist finds years ago.  It's a pottery barn wing chair and I love it, but the color doesn't work.
And quite frankly neither does this slipcover.  We have two black dogs an a child and for some reason everything clings to this chair - chocolate milk, dog hair you name it.  I recently ordered a navy slipcover but decided against it becasue the fabric was a canvas and almost hard.

Any thoughts on how to re-do this chair on the cheap?
I have a few, but I always love suggestions!

Clearly I have a child... Hello Mickey!

Another view from the Kitchen.  I really do love how this space has changed for the better over the years.  It's on it's second coat of paint and pretty much the same furniture since we've moved in.

I did recently make this end table and I'm seriously loving it too!
Someday I'll get to that on the blog -- easiest process ever!

My recently updated horse with the tassel on his ear.
Yesterday Ella said to me "Mommy, you painted my horse" and I said, "Yes I did!"
It cracked me up that she (1) just noticed it and (2) left it alone because it was a different color!
Crazy Kid!

And lastly a new addition to the coffee table!  A while back wrote about dressing a coffee table.
This is the best I could do on limited resources!  I had the antler.  Think about tipping it with gold.
I found that copper creamer at goodwill the other day for 49 cents!  Steal!
And the book is an old Reader's Digest that I've started collecting from Goodwill for Maeve.
I love the patterns that are on them!

The tray painting tutorial is on it's way!  Love this tray, also from Goodwill - $3.99.
In Navy, now it POPS!

So there she is... my humble living room.  Very simple, plain, kinda blah if you ask me but the little details all over seem to be helping.  Loving my new succulents too!  Hoping I don't kill them since they are inside!

Friday Favorite : Sarah M. Dorsey Designs

This might be one of my favorite DIY blogs.  I know, I know... I probably say that about everyone!
But this girl can do anything!  She's amazing!

Sarah M. Dorsey Designs

I've been following her for maybe a little over a year?  Maybe longer... but I found her after she won the Creating for the Stars Challenge last year.

I love that she tackles anything!  And tries anything!  And rarely seems to fail!

When she made these curtains, I almost went out and bought all the supplies, but knew mine would not turn out as good.  She did provide a free download of the stencil which made the process even more tempting!

via

When she made this chandelier, I was sold.  I need more time to try to make something like this.. but would you know that it was DIY?

via

Then she posted these printables and I decided they needed to be some in my home.. A second one might be getting printed shortly!  They cost $7 to have printed at Staples.

via

And here they are in my house!

And those are just three of my favorite projects she's done!  There are plenty more on her blog!  So hop on over and check out Sarah!  What she does with some things will seriously blow your mind!

Now off to cater to my sick child now... we have a cough that won't go away.

Happy Friday!

How to Dress A Coffee Table - Inspiration

My coffee table is feeling very bare these days and I was thinking about how I could sass it up... How I could dress it.

I found this post from The Inspired Nest.  She follows a simple formula of "Books + Plant Material + Decorative Object = stylish and attractive table scape" and also gives other tips to use when styling your table.

I found some inspiration today as well...

I love the simplicity of this one above.  Easy formula.
Books + Small Decor

Love this set up, although I'm not too much into this much "Sea" theme.
I love the wire basket and the candle in the lantern though.

This one is very much like my own coffee table except mine has a lower shelf too.
I need more florals in my life so I'm enjoying htat aspect and I'm in desperate need of a dough bowl.

Love this potted plant and coral.  The dog is cute too.
Recurring theme -- Books...

LLLLOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE the glass dome.  What are those called?  The word escapes me right now but they are gorgeous and a little dramatic.  I have antlers too so I'm thinking this simple arrangement might be a good fit.

I love the use of trays so I might be refinishing a few that are hanging out in my garage at the moment.

This last one is my favorite.  I love the wire baskets with blankets rolled underneath. I've been thinking I need another basket in my life for blankets in the living room but I didn't think of using it this way.
I am in love with that wooden horse but it wouldn't work in my life right now but those green topiary balls are gorgeous.  I feel like my own table might be headed in a direction like this...

I was looking for tables that had the same elements as mine for inspiration - size, wood & iron, etc...  I love that I have anlters, trays and other elements laying around at home to play with.  I need to figure out an arrangment that is practical with my 2 year old roaming around the house and occasionally twirling right into this table.  So hopefully soon my coffee table will be dressed and since I'll be using things from my house, budget friendly!

Happy Monday everyone!
And Happy Daylight Savings!
Needing another cup of coffee this morning!

xoxo,
